Adventure Travel Insurance

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where I could get the best deal on adventure travel insurance?

My husband and I are going to Switzerland next month and we are planning to do a parachute jump while we are there, I'd love to hear some top tips!

I get the impression that insurers abroad are not nearly so timid about insuring adventurous sports as those in the UK. If you're going to Switzerland maybe you speak German and will be happy with a policy offered by HanseMerkur in Germany http://www.versicherung-hanse-merkur.de/auslandsreise-krankenversicherung.htm.

    The terms are here http://www.hmrv.de/home/hansemerkur-web/agb/MR032_VBUR2003.pdf

My German is not that great but as I read their policy the only sports excluded are fighting sports like boxing and judo. You can even climb Mount Everest under their policy as far as I can see. If you're happy with the policy you can get accident insurance for just 9 euros for 10 days in Europe and combined accident and luggage insurance for just 18 euros.

I'd be interested to hear what other people's views are on taking out insurance in this way. We so often get a poor deal in this country that I think it can be worth looking abroad for things like this, and the Internet makes it easy.

Don't know if I am right in sating this but don't you have to sign a waiver when you do a parachute jump?

Travel Insurance Web (https://www.travelinsuranceweb.com) allow you to cover parachuting, it's in a list of activities at the bottom of the quote page - you scroll through it and pick what youre doing.

    HTH!
if it's more than 10 stone, and that hairy, it's probably not a dog...it may be a wookie.
  • Thanks very much Porker, :T

Travelinsurance.com made it very easy to pick and choose activities and gave me a reasonable price aswell.

Unfortunately my German is less than spectacular or else I'm sure I would take a look.

    Thanks everyone:j
