pothole = blown tyre, damaged alloy

Hi all,

I'd like to say thanks to all that post before hand.

A few months ago a I read an email martin sent to us about claiming against your local council for damages to wheels and tyres due to improper maintenance of the public highways.

I've been searching for that email and can not find it anywhere. Ive also looked on the forum and done searches on the website. I cant find it and info for it.

As you can probably gather I am in need of that info or any advice people can give me. Unfortunately the day i got back from holiday I drove back from Gatwick and unfortunately drove over a pot hole just a mile or so from my home.

Didnt realise at first but when i got out of my car, I noticed the damage it had done.

A massive bulge in the tyre wall and a huge dent/ bend in the alloy lip.

Any infor or advice is appreciated, a link to that info would also be great.

Sorry for the long thread, I look forward to reading your response.

Hopefully you've had a chance to take photos of the pothole (before they fix it) and also check whether it was reported, what the inspection schedule was and also other websites such as http://www.potholes.co.uk/ and http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ where people's reports are logged.

Pictures are very important as they will often show how long the pothole has been there. Get some wide shots of the road if there are other defects around. Often, potholes are not on their own and there will be others, crumbling edges, cracks, damaged kerbs etc. A picture of a poorly maintained road will often get you the compensation you're looking for - otherwise the council are likely to tell you "not a chance" and getting a lawyer to take it on when it is just wheel/tyre damage (i.e. no injuries to bump up the value) is near impossible.

See if you have any recent pictures of your wheels/tyre in good condition - witnesses are great for the actual incident, but the reliability of someone saying "yep, I inspected my sons wheels and tyres just last week and they were fine" doesn't hold much weight with the council ... ;)
I've been making animations for my daughter. Tell me what you think? Search for "Where are you Pickles?" and "Pickles and the Bully" on YouTube.

It wasn't a BMW 19 inch alloy wheel, by any chance?
