  • Im sure they would include a christmas card say with name address. Proable work out cheaper to include a cash donation rather than buy everything then pay the postage on top. I know family friends can send a set amount for free but you will be sending them to the chairty depo first I guess so they can be checked.

After all you could be sending anything nasty! My brothers not out again till next year maybe someone on here knows of someone who would be very greatful for package and you could send it via their name/rank.

Sorry to Hijack the thread... I looked at the link but for the life of me I can't spot where the list of local co-ordinators are... just the head office address? :o

    Try this page, Shortie:

    http://www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk/contact.html

or go to 'Contact us' on the menu.

You'll see the details of the people who run the charity and the area coordinators.

    Hope that helps.

Perfect, thank you Kay Peel

I'm contacting my local one to see if they are going to be area co-orinators for this year. I didn't think there would be one THAT close to me!

See what is in poundland - sometimes they can have some great things that might just fit the job.

Food seems a good option - is there anything they love and can't get hold of? My friend in Vietnam missed Chocolate hob nobs!

Another travel game I thought they might like was Dominoes. You sometimes find them in charity shops.

A different option could be an Intelliquest, a small portable quiz thingy - available here together with various quiz books (the 'Survival' one might be good!)

It's difficult finding things to make for men, but one possibility could be to make a personalised photo frame or mini scrapbook?

The fancy dress option sounds good too, it also has the advantage of being light to transport too.

    Camouflage Santa hat?

Hawkins Bazaar do some wind-up racing games that could be fun to play in a group.

Maybe play with the idea of a non snowy Christmas? Try to find online, or order from one of the design-your-own sites, a T shirt featuring Santa on a camel, or a reindeer in sunglasses, or a sleigh stuck in sand...
    import this

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I am going into town tomorrow and I am now armed with a good list of items to look out for. I'll report back on how I get on!

Love it! :T I think I'll make it my mission to make them one each!!! My son has an old camo fleece that no longer fits him so I think I'll use the fabric from that!

Toiletries are always nice too, sounds daft but even the little travel size ones of their favourites are really appreicated , and yes everything gets shared.
Food always good (especially Xmas themed stuff) as is sometinhg a little bit quirky and fun.

Dont forget half the pleasure is actually receiveing parcels/letters - even in the age of the internet and email there is something about a mail drop that gets even the most hardened squaddie excited - and hence why if they can they share their spoils.

just as an aside, even though you're meant to be able to send up to 2kg free, i've been charged for anything over 1kg by a stupid post office (and i wasn't the only one - i know people used completely different post offices and had the same problem). if you can, pack everything up in 1kg parcels as the cost is enormous when they do charge!
