We discovered this recipe on a Christmas made easy type programme years ago - it has a huge amount of ingrdients but goes on early Christmas Eve morning and stays on the hob on a very low light - don't put it into the oven at all. That way there is always a meal on the go for all the toing and froing that the day entails.
We tend to have rice with it rather than potatoes and dumplings. It is the most gorgeous stew you've ever had - honest. Along with the smell of mulled wine it really means Christmas has finally arrived in our house!!!:j

PS Easy to play with amounts for differing numbers of guests - very forgiving recipe.

i don't know how this happened by gammon, egg and chips seems to of been our xmas eve meal for last few year's.
however i'm hoping hubbys grandparents are in the country for xmas this year and if there here i'm hoping to do a chilli con carne, with jackets for a change. it my fav meal. i'm alway requested to cook it , for i'm doing a big family get to together meal.0 -
my granddad, my dad and now i have my own place me too always cook boiled ham on xmas eve and have it with chips or just sandwhiches. however last year was my first year with the oh in this house and he wanted to go to his mums - she does a family buffet i dint go as i was late home from work and busy wrapping. this year i am unsure what to do - his mum is coming to my mums on xmas day for dinner (she lives alone and came last year too) and there seems something strange about me going to her 'party' and not spending time with my parents as they will be staying in as theres so much prep to do having so many people for xmas dinner....am i being silly?0

Think we are going to have cheesy french toast with roasted tomatoes and ham. This is a recipe I have had out the December issue of either BBC Good Food or Good House keeping, Can't remember which, but it looks scrummy, is easy to prepare and doesn't take much faffing which is good as we won't be having it until after 7pm when the wee ones are asleep!!0

We usually have a one pot meal on Xmas Eve, such as fish pie or lasagne.0
