Hi, i'm looking into buying a new LCD HDTV, although i'm not to sure on the requirements for a HDTV! Does a HDTV have to have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 or is a 1280 x 768 acceptable?
I can't decide between the following two LCD's, which one to purchuse:
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=3LD0&InMerch=1
or
http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?quicklinx=3ZYS&InMerch=1
Thanks in advance for any information regarding the topic or helping my decision on the LCD's!
Cheers, Gareth

They both would be as the requirement for HD Ready is only on the number of horizontal lines not vertical.
Normal advice would be to always see the sets in action first - LCD can suffer from motion smearing which can only be tested by watching some fast action video and not by "stats"All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

also look at the screen (when switched on), so flat screens lose picture or suffer blurring when looking from the sides...... something i noticed when window shopping.......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

HDTV resolutions are 1280x720 and 1920x1080, so anything of 1280x720 or bigger should be fine. Personally I'm not a fan of LCDs, particularly when they only have 720 resolution, but a lot of people seem happy with them.. and every time I have to move my CRT monitor I wonder if I should have bought LCD
.
There's supposed to be a new technology in development which combines the best elements of CRT and LCD (i.e. high-contrast, non-blurry picture and small size), but it will probably be several years before it's affordable.

CRT TVs are really cheap at the moment, although they are getting a rarer sight.
Tesco had a 28 widescreen with built in freeview (Grundig I think) for around £200.
Never buy a TV without looking at one in the flesh, Comet have a good selection. If you do get them to show you a normal picture as well as the HD demo they usually have running.
Went round yesterday and despite most of there sets being HD ready only one had a screen capable of resolving the full HD picture spec of 1920x1080, very nice Toshiba 42" LCD, it was £2000 mind. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
