Advice Please

Hi,

Need some advice...
I'm currently debt free and want to improve my credit history not that I believe there is anything wrong with it (for when I want to apply for a mortgage etc). I like the sound of not using my visa debit card to pay for everything and instead get a cash back card, will this help with my credit history or should I just get a normal credit card and pay it off each month?
Also I recently was on holiday and ran out of money even spent all of my overdraft and more encurring a bank penalty, when speaking to Llyods tsb who my current account is with they suggested to get their credit card to avoid this problem in the future, this makes sense but am wondering which is the best credit card type I should go for?

Thanks for any help.

If you've never had a credit card before you probably only have two options, neither of which will meet your cashback requirements:

    1. LTSB

    2. A credit-builder card from the likes of Capital One, Vanquis, Aqua, or Barclaycard.

Option 1 would be the best bet since the APR will be much lower (should you run up an interest bearing balance after any 0% intro period). However, if you've been abusing your LTSB current account (on more than the one occasion you mention) then option 2 may be the only option you have.
