Don't forget that they have to be prepared when you take them out of the shell, you don't just cook everything that comes out!
(Why won't anyone else try them?)0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: While it’s easy to wander off-topic that often prevents newbies finding the information they want quickly and easily (please see this rule). Please keep this thread on topic. If you’d like to discuss non-MoneySaving related topics please continue your discussion in The MoneySavers Arms or Discussion Time. When you do take them out of the shell, make sure that you remove the frill (or skirt) that surrounds the meat. This is where shellfish toxins concentrate and if the scallop isn't shucked properly, there's a risk that you can get one of the shellfish poisonings - DSP or PSP.
Before you panic, there's little risk if it's just the meat and the roe (also known as the coral, because of its pink colour), but discard the floppy stuff that surrounds the meat. Believe you me, you don't want to have DSP (Diarhoetic Shellfish Poisoning)0 -
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Oldernotwiser - my mum is really fussy, she only just eats cod!! And only if its frozen in batter and not fresh hahaha
My son might eat them, he's 4 and can be a bit funny with trying new things but i will try.
I'm a bit more adventurous with food than her though! Will definately try them with garlic butter and pasta with salad, sounds lovely :-)
Next time I get them from my friend I'll ask her not to freeze them too!!!!!!0
