Scallops

Hi,
My friend gave me some scallops in shells the other day (5 of them) that they caught fresh that day and have been put in the freezer.
I've never had them before so any ideas on how to cook them and what to eat them with?!
Cheers

You froze fresh scallops! What sacrilege!
Edit: Did you freeze them in their shell?0 -
It is better to freeze them out of their shells IMHO but get them out defrost, remove from shells pop into water for seconds and take them out and dry.
Fry quickly on both sides in butter and serve with a very simple sauce of your choice with salad and perhaps small pieces of toast0 -
lol no she did!! i have no idea about them. never even contemplated them before!
Anyway I'm the only one who will try them so I have to wait til I have a day where its just me to cook for so they needed freezing.
Any ideas on cooking them?!0 -
Thanks juliescott. They were frozen in their shells :-)0

Once defrosted, fry lightly, add some prawns, maybe few bits of salmon, serve over pasta in creamy white sauce....mmmmm! Even more luxurious version has white wine sauce....I feel hungry!Resolution:

Hi Shelley,
Defrost your scallops and remove them from the shells...sooner rather than later in case they begin to get freezer burn.
Scallops need very little cooking or they will become rubbery. I like them cooked with bacon or chorizo. Fry chopped bacon in a little butter until crispy. Remove and keep warm. Add minced garlic to the pan (optional) then sear the scallops in butter for less than a minute on each side, then pop the bacon back into the pan. Stir in a small knob of butter and fresh parsley and serve them with crispy salad and wheaten bread. Or add a couple of tablespoons of cream instead of the butter and a splash of white wine and serve with pasta.
There's an earlier thread with more ideas for using scallops:
scallops - how to cook
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

As you have frozen them, give them to the cat.0
