Having a verucca burnt off at the doctors

  • My daughter (9) had to have about 6 or 7 frozen off at the G.P's a while ago. They originally had not wanted to do it and said to use an over the counter treatment......they just kept on spreading and a huge one on her heel was making walking painful, so, in the end, the GP had to freeze them.

We went in a school lunchtime, the one on her heel she said was not too painful, but the ones on the end of her toes were obviously very painful to have done. However, she went back to school in the afternoon (could not do PE though) and after a day or two, she was fine. They were totally gone a couple of weeks later.

I had mine frozen off at about 11 (had them since I was 8 but the doctor said they would go away on there own, they multiplied instead!!) and I can't remember it hurting too much.

I've aquirred another one now though (grrr) and even the extra strength bazuca isnt working so im off to the wart clinic again! Thats if I can ever get another appointment ......\
  • The GP froze a huge one i had on the ball of my foot when i was a teenager. I had one on the other foot as well, but he refused to do them both at the same time because he said i would find it hard to walk. I still remember the pain now, and it was still difficult to walk after having only one done!! I didn't go back for my other foot cos the first one didn't do a thing so i used bazuka from the chemist instead, took a while, and some dedication (cos they were quite big) but it eventually cleared them completely....but they are persistant little !!!!!!s!! :T

I know you'd have to pay, but going to a chiropodist is by far and away a better way to get feet sorted.

A bit like teeth - Drs really don't 'do' feet very well at all.

many people go to see their GP first and get very incorrect/ill advised/ sometimes unethical and dangerous advise. i often tell my patients ..."if you had tooth ache where would you go??..if you had trouble reading??? mmm maybe see the optician? so why oh why when you have a problem with the foot don't you see a foot specialist?

there is a very wide range of treatments available to treat verrucea and many do not involve caustics or freezing. But you need to go to discuss the best treatment options.

I used to get quite a few verrucas as a child and had them frozen off. I remember them taking about 3-5 attempts at freezing. Yes it did hurt- but probably was far worse as my dad was a tight ****** and made me walk the 20 minutes walk home instead of getting the bus. It would hurt for a few days but get progressively better. I remember there being tears at the pain but also the walk home. On the one occassion my mum took me, we did get the bus back and I did not end up crying!

I would work out if you have the money, if you have a taxi/bus fare to go home with and try to get it done after school on a friday so theres the chance at having feet resting! Its not painful if you look after it and rest. Maybe it depends on the pain threshold of the child- some feel pain more then others, you know your child best.
