what to make with casserole beef apart from a casserole!

I have 2 packs of casserole beef I got really cheaply but not sure what to do with them other than a beef casserole!

Any suggestions?

I have potatoes, veg, stock cubes, seasoning, gravy, ect...lots in really as my tesco.com shop was delivered yesterday.

I would stick with some kind of casserole as the beef will probably need long slow cooking to make it soft.

I brown the meat and set aside, then sweat some chopped carrots, swede and onion, stir in some flour and cook for one min. Add a pint of beef stock, a dash of Lea & Perrins, add the meat back to the pot, whack the lid on and cook for ...the longer the better.

It freezes really well and tastes better the day after you've made it. You can have it with dumplings, mash, jacket spud for a quick tea or stick a pastry lid on for a really nice pie.
Just run, run and keep on running!

yep....we use casserole beef for a beef curry or our fave steak and ale pie! sometimes we change it slightly and instead of pastry top with slices of potato for steak and ale hotpot

dya think a beef hotpot would work in a slow cooker??

would I just throw some chopped veggies in,pour some beef stock in and then alternate layers of beef and potatoe slices??

    Sounds ok doesnt it.

We make a casserole we have always called Spanish Steak.
Brown the steak then put it in a casserole dish with a chopped onion, mushrooms, peppers (in large chunks) and a tin of campbels condensed tomato soup.

We have also used steak with leeks, mushrooms and condensed oxtail soup.

    Both really tasty.

another way to enjoy beef casserole instead of just with veg / dumplingd etc is to make it into a beef suet roll

make some suet pastry ( 2oz suet 4 oz SR flour and water to mix) then add the beef filling and roll up lie a swiss roll

bake in the oven for about 20 mins

A greek recipe - Stifado. I think they usually recommend veal for this (yuk), I always use diced beef, about a pound in weight.

Brown the beef and a chopped onion in a little oil in a large pan. Add 1 cup of red wine, a tin of chopped tomatoes, a tablespoon of tomato paste (thinned in half a cup of hot water), a bay leaf, seasoning to taste.

Cover and simmer for an hour to an hour and a half (checking the volume of liquid - add a little more water/wine if necessary). Cross cut about 12 baby onions, add to pot and simmer for another hour.

It takes ages, but tastes great - and the house will smell lovely! I usually serve with potatoes roasted in olive oil and lemon juice.
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

Throw a small tin of Guiness/beer in with the beef and stock and onions and mushrooms and you will be amazed at how nice even the cheapest stewing /casserole beef tastes.
It tastes even more wonderful if ,after you have cooked the meat, put the mixture in a pie.Just roll out a flaky pastry top, brush with egg, and lay over the beef in a deep dish.a few slits to let the steam out, and cook in the oven untill the pastry has risen and is golden and flaky
