Seconding (thirding? forthing?) Halfords Pro, Had mine 7 or 8 years and only managed to bend one spanner, because I was using a scaffolding pole on it!
Often on special offer, you can get a smallish set and just add to it the bits you need.Out on blue six..
It's Chips and Jackets, Peas and Trousers.0 -
I have a Halfords set from 10 years ago and is still in good shape. Otherwise try Stanley.Hoping this year is better than the last.0

halfrauds pro range man- top shi# lasts well, the first thing to break will be the box, so keep your recepit in a safe place as it has a 'lifetime guarantee'No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Why keep your reciept? It's a lifetime guarantee and it's all stamped HALFORDS. lol. kidding.
My middle ratchet was not quite right from the start and the selector pin fell out. They gave me a new set of inners to fix it.
Then one of the UJ's broke (whilst removing a cylinder head off a Range Rover). Instore told me as it had a moving part, it wasnt covered. I told them I would get one whether they gave me it there and then, or I had to come back.
2 days later I got a call saying no. I asked them to put the refusal in writing and send it to me. They told me to come back in and they'd replace it.
So the guarantees good too.0 -

oh and for anyone else interested in tools they should treat themselves to a stanley rotator drive ratchet. i bought one in the states 4 years ago, i though it would maybe only last a year and then break, ive still got it and use/abuse it every day and it still works well, its very handy for tight spaces.
Goldy any chance of a link to see itIMOJACAR

this is the one, mine didnt come with the sockets though. it seems a good price for what you get. mine takes great deals of abuse daily, its even seized after being out in the rain, a quick spray with wd40 and away it goes again....work permit granted!0 -

I also bought a Kamasa set back in 1970 when I decided to build a beach buggy, that's completed 1/2 doz home built cars and done most of my maintenance since that date, can't vouch that they are still the same quality tho'
Still got mine, in a green case, I cannot break them.;)0 -
Halfrauds Pro are good. I have some of them. I also have (and prefer) the Clarke Pro stuff from Machinemart which like Halfrauds has a lifetime guarantee http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/categories/search/socket-sets-sockets-tool-sets0
