Fraudulant transfer from cc to bank account

Hi
I have a Virgin credit card with a zero balance that I havent used since March 09.
Today I had a call from Virgin about a £1 transaction followed by a £30 in London which they wanted to check was legitimate. It wasnt and it turned out that a week ago someone had phoned them and carried out a £1700 transfer into a Lloyds tsb bank account. That person had my date of birth, place of birth, mothers maiden name, 3 digit no from my card and the credit card number.
How the hell did they get that info? I never ever give it to anyone and havent even got it written down anywhere. I dont carry the card with me.
Surely the only people with that info are Virgin!!

Any ideas anyone. Bit worried now to say the least

Similar thing happened to me, someone was able to answer my security questions and change my address with the credit card company...TSB as it happens and was able to go wild on my card, I'm unsure how they answered all my questions correctly, but unfortunately I bet it's worth getting a £7 copy of a birth certificate/do a bit of genealogy research to fill in a few gaps, place of birth, date of birth mothers maiden name, often a security question.

Big tip to everyone, never use mothers maiden name as a password or security answer!
