MSE News: Anger over new Halifax overdraft fees

This still doesn't explain why the Halifax won't close my account & not honour any more transactions as I requested.
They will not close your account if there are outstanding debit transactions. You provided the merchant with your card information, as far as Halifax are concerned you have "authorised" these payments. Once the payment has been authorised through Visa, Halifax are obliged to honour it, upon request.
The dispute is between yourself and the merchant, Halifax are merely facilitating the transaction. If more money debits, and after 30 days no goods or services have been received, call back Halifax and request a "debit card dispute" escalated. This process can take up to three months.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Just got a letter in about this now. Im a student and every term I'm into my overdraft so these £1 per day charges are gonna screw my money right up.
Im already into my overdraft by less than a 10r but no more student finance until January so around 8 weeks is gonna cost £56.
I thought they offered these accounts to get students custom after graduation.
Im in my fourth and final year and had it not already started I would have changed. With these types of charges do they honestly think that I will stay after graduation.
Hopefully I get the job I want and some other bank can have my custom.0 -
Tell them when your course ends.
You should retain a charge free overdraft for 12 months after that date.
Time to get a job and pay the debt off, perhaps.0 -

This change didn't effect Student Current Accounts. If you've got a letter advising you're changing to a Standard Current Account then these charges will effect you, but read on as the changeover may be a mistake.Im in my fourth and final year and had it not already started I would have changed. You can have a Student Current Account for up to five years of study, and one year after graduation. If you've only had the Student Current Account for four years, visit your local branch with proof you're still studying, they may have mis-keyed the dates when you opened the account.Hopefully I get the job I want and some other bank can have my custom.
I think you're re-acting to situation that doesn't even effect you.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

I would love to have a job but tbh I'm busy enough with final year work. I can't wait to finish uni and start making my own money. If you've got a letter advising your changing to a Standard Current Account then these charges will effect you, but read on as the changeover may be a mistake.
