Medion not honouring 36 month warranty?

My daughter's Medion Laptop that was bought from Aldi in Nov 2006 has recently not been holding a charge. I called Medion Support to be told that batteries only have a 6 month warranty and I woudl have to buy a new one at a cost of £80.

I've looked through the warranty statement in the manual and there's no mention of this anywhere.

Are Medion trying to pull a fast one here?

I've seen other postings complaining about Medion's poor service and stating that its best to go direct to Aldi. Should I do this?

Most laptop batteries only have a 6 month warrenty.

How long a battery should last depends on usage, it is a consumable and won't last forever.

To have nearly 3 years use out of it sounds pretty good to me.

I have to agree. Laptop batteries are classed as a consumable and are not expected to last the lifetime of the laptop itself and wont be covered by your 3 year warranty.

Three years is very good out of a cheap laptop battery

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • There's no need to pay £80 for a "genuine" replacement either.
You don't state which model it is. Try somewhere like this http://www.laptopbatteryshop.co.uk/search.php?search=medion&image.x=43&image.y=8
and look to see whether it's listed. There are lots of other places which sell replacements, so have a search. Enter Medion "model number" battery into a search engine.
