Breakdown cover
Hi all,
I'm trying to find ways of reducing my insurance payment this year and part of it is £52 for breakdown cover (which has increased by about £10 from last year).
That amount covers me for:
Home start
Nationwide recovery
90 days European breakdown cover
Is that good or are there better deals out there that people are aware of?
Many thanks

Look on the main site at Martin's article on this. We went for taking out the Autoaid insurance he recommends which was cheaper than your renewal but will require us to pay and reclaim the costs if we use the cover.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0

£52 is good, much less than i pay.
I use the RAC.
May i ask who you use?0 -
With the European cover thats a good price, if you don't need the Euro cover I would go for the Auto Aid (and have they are very good).0

Cool, I didn't see that, thanks. I'd be curious to know how good they are?0 -

I have been contemplating taking the channel tunnel and going abroad but don't have any immediate plans due to my current financial situation. I like the idea of having it just in case...0 -

I did use the service during the summer because of an alternator problem. I called the number, spoke to a nice person who called me back to say someone was coming out and they came out in about 25 minutes I think. I don't remember waiting very long anyway and the person that came out was very good and helpful.
Here's the details of the policy anyway:

It's additional to my insurance with them so I don't know if you can get the rescue service by itself. In previous years the cost was about £40...0 -

I got sent the paperwork out OK, reasonably promptly. I've not needed to make a call out yet (touch wood). As they are an insurance service not a company with breakdown employees, what happens when you do breakdown is a local firm resolves it (AutoAid can give you firms or you can call one you know) then you pay for it and send in a claim to AutoAid who send you a cheque for what you paid.
I think Martin's advice had a european option on it - click the transport tab and see.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0
