Pc World

Hi
Brought a laptop a little over a year ago and all was fine with it until about May this year, Called PC world and explained the problem (internal power pin had become dislodged and fallen inside the laptop). I was told that because my warrenty had not yet expired i was entitled to have it fixed but at a price as it was not normally coved under the standard warrenty, I was then told that this was a particular problem with the modal of laptop that i had and that they could fix it free after all.
About 3 months later the same problem has occured and i again called PC world to tell them that this was broken again and this time they have point blank refused to fix it unless i pay for it.
I have argued with them over the fact that there Tech department fixed the problem in the first place for the part to break again within 3 months is totally unacceptable but they are refusing.
Is there anything i can do to get this fixed by them or is there any action that i can take to make them pay for it as they are the ones that admitted that it was a well known fault on this modal when they sold it to me?
Please help
Thanks

The original may of been faulty, but the replacement may of been fixed from this - the charging point breaking is a very common fault - but it's accidental damage thus why they want you to pay.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Well your better then me, nowhere in the OP could I see that the laptop had been dropped or mistreated!!!
A laptop should be "fit for purpose" and "durable", if the power socket fails then I would say it is neither of these - the power adapter lead may be seen as being more of a consumable part, but I have only ever had two cables fail on me in the last 14 years of using laptops, and that is with multiple usage per day going from client to client! But the OP seems to say that it is actually the socket on the laptop that has the fault.
If I were the OP I would be taking action against PCW and would be sending them a letter before action giving them 14 days to remedy the situation/fault.0 -
Hiya,
I had similar problems with PC World a couple of years ago.
The Sales of Goods Act 1979 states that goods should be fit for the purpose they are sold, therefore if this laptop is breaking several times within a short period of time (as there's a reasonable time limit on this) you may be entitled to a refund or replacement.
What you will probably need to do is to prove the fault is inherent, was there at the time of purchase. To do this you will need to get an independent engineers report which you should be able to get from a local computer repair shop, at a cost (mine was £30/£35 I think).
If you are still unsure then the only other advice I can give is for you to ring consumer direct (on 0845 404 0506 – an alternative number may be found on the 'saynoto0870' website) and seek their opinion as I have found them to be extremely helpful on numerous occasions.
Hope this helps
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice i will look into it, I have not dropped my laptop i know that much and i am only going on what PC World told me in the first place about the broken part and it being a common fault so i will research it more and then get back to them.
As far as i am aware the only ware and tear that the part has had is the power cable being plugged into it and pulled out and in my opionion that should not cause it to be pushed inside the laptop as this is what it is made to do!0 -
