Help and advice with no gas on pre-pay meter

Hi Guys,
We recently had a pre-pay gas meter fitted after having problems with our bills, the account got setup and no bills arrived, we tried paying but couldnt without an account so then it got to the point where they fitted pre-payment under warrant. I know this could have been resolved but when running our business we got distracted.
Winters now setting in really fast and we have been using coal/wood from the garden to keep us warm so far.
We now have no coal/wood left to burn and because my partners been working all day i havent bothered heating the room and kept warm with a blanket. But now my hands are so cold im struggling to type.
What i wanted to know is that because our meter recovers so much in debt we couldnt afford to keep it going so havent topped it up lately. That means whenever we topup the meter will try and recover more than its usually weekly rate. Last time we topped up we had gas at 6pm and when we woke up at 8am there was nothing left.
Is there anything we can say to British Gas to help us in this situation as obviously no gas means no heating which makes it very hard to live comfortably at the minute.
Our electric is also pre-pay but that is fine at the moment but also rules out using numerous high cost electric heaters.
Thanks, Steve.
