Engagement Ring Assistance

That sounds like a lot of money to me too. My engagement ring was £900 and I still feel bad that DH spent that much on me (I'm worth it of course) but I would have been just as happy with a £200 ring.
It's a tricky one as some girls place such a lot of meaning on the cost of rings. Have you spoken to your girlfriend - maybe tell her what you have saved and ask i she would rather you spend it all on the ring or put some towards the wedding or house.0 -
I second the recommendations for the B'ham jewellery quarter or Hatton Garden - my own engagement ring was from Hatton Garden and the wedding ring was bespoke from the same jewellers to fit the engagement ring.
However unless you are really sure what your girlfriend would like I do suggest that you let her choose. She wil be wearing it every day for ( hopefully ) the rest of her life. My OH has bought me lots of jewellery over the years most of which I am afraid I have worn once on the day it was given to me

I have thought about letting her choose. But then I lose the whole SURPRISE!! and even if I do propose without a ring and let her choose I won't have the ring with me (as I was writing this I thought about the fact she can choose the ring before I propose and I still have the surprise and the ring when I propose...)0 -
Why not buy a cheap costume ring or the actual proposal, just so she has something to wear there and then. I have a silver ring from new look cost about £5 it looks like a real engagement ring though and I use this when my proper ring goes to be re-rhodiumed and cleaned.0

We used Samsons for my ring and it's lovely. (I had three diamonds of just over 1 carat in total, platinum, better quality than OP wants for his stones ((better colour and clarity)) and it cost 2k, just to give an idea of costs.) DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
