Problem With Solicitor Over Accident?

Hi all, I hope ive posted this in the right place, please feel free to move if its better suited somewhere else!
Basically Im looking for some advice as I dont have any previous experience with solicitors really, nor does OH, but are in a situation where we are frustrated to the back teeth.
The situation, being kept as brief as possible is this -
Last year, on 31 july my husband was involved in a car accident, liability was admitted by 3rd party, lovely we thought, makes it a whole lot simplier - wrong!
after 13 months of lack of contact with 3rd parties insurers etc it ended up going to court due to no response (apparently) from defendant. So sept 10th was final hearing, where my husband was awarded a modest amount of money that we were happy with. The solicitor phoned to advise and said to expect the money within 21 days (not working days - 21 days). This would have been oct 1st.
Oct 1st came and went, still nothing, not even any contact from solicitor, so we emailed her (this company pretty much carries out all business via email) advising we had not had any written confirmation of the final judgement of the court, asked if this was normal, and what happens next. The solicitor emailed back 2 day slater to say she is chasing this with defendant, and needs to give them another 7 days. Emailed her to say we looked forward to her response in 7 days to advise us what the next step is (please note she did not say anything other than those 2 lines).
So now the 8th of oct comes and goes, still nothing, another email to the solicitor (phone call just gets us through to call centre where we are told she is not avail to talk and to either email or call back) asking again for an update, and this time we are told that she is chasing, and we have to allow for ample oppertuinity for them to respond as going back to court would lengthen the process even more. Ok
12th Oct - we email again, asking for update, nothing back, so I email again on 14th again nothing until yesterday - simply stating 'sorry i have been out of the office for a week, i will chase and email you back'.
This is now beginning to drive me mental, not because of the time its taking, but because of the solicitors apparent lack of interest in keeping us updated. Her replies are short and abrupt, never address any of our concerns and she seems simply disinterested. I was tempted to email her (as this has been the case from the beginning she was assigned to us) and to advise her that I have no confidence in her, as if her comminication with us is anything like hers with the defendant then Im not suprised this is still ongoing and then make a complaint with her superior (as i have threatened to do before). But i dont know if im overreacting? I know she must be busy, but all we are asking is she keeps us updated, and not leave it for us to chase her all the time? Is this normal?
Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

Even though you have won your case, automatic receipt of the money isn't guaranteed, and your solicitor has mislead you by telling you you would be paid within 21 days of winning the case.

Ask the solicitor to let you know what action she proposes to enforce the judgement you won in court.
