Hi all
I used to have a computer in my living room which was kept on all day long even when not used.
Ive got rid of the comp and purchased a laptop so only plugged in when on roughly 1 hour a day.
Does any1 know if this will save me any money and if so a rough amount please. Im trying to cut cost to up my mortgage overpayments and as they say every little helps

Well, of course it will. If your computer is turned on it will be using electricity the entire time. Now if it's only idling it will be less than if you are actively using it, however it'll still be using a good amount of power. So I'd guess you are using around 97% less than your computer was using.
Hard to say what you computer uses, without rigging it up to a monitor to check.
So your using 1 hour of power rather than 24, and the laptop will likely be using less power too so it's more like 45minutes.0 -
Do you mean that your PC was left on 24/7 without it going on standby(hibernate/sleep)?
An average figure for a laptop is around 30w - so approx 3 hours for 1p.
Older desktops generally use less power than modern machines - and I assume yours was old or you wouldn't have got rid of it! - so 100w to 150w(1p to 1.5p an hour) would be an average cost.(assuming it didn't go to standby)0
