Do u think i could get DLA?

Hi as soon of you know broken my ankle at work and had to have it pinned and plated. That was 15 weeks ago. I m still signed off, althought i thinki am going back tooneof my jobs next week. Realy need money as i am on ESA but only getting NI credit.

Anyway I can still only walk a short distance, and i am still in alt of pain, Because of this i am unable to do normal everyday things. Like take children to schooland pick them up.

I don t know how long it will be like this or if it will get better. Do you think it would be worth me appling.

Thanks

To clam the mobility element of DLA, you need to have had walking difficulties because of a physical or mental disability for three months, and you are likely to need this help or have these difficulties for at least another six months. Are you expected to still have significant difficulty walking in 6 months?

  • I really dont know. I dont have as much movement in ankle that broken. Think this is due to it being plated. But it is posible it could come back, but on other hand it may alway be like this. This is why i am not sure if it is worth aplling or not

If your ankle is as bad as you say, why are you even thinking about going back to work? surely you are going to do more damage to it. I suspect you are signed off work for this exact reason.

DLA mobility is virtually unable to walk.
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • So doesn t look like it would be worth appling. I have 2 part yime jobs the one i am going to go back to is desk based. So i would be siting down most of time. We r behind with are mortage, council tax and water now, as well as a couple of smaller bits. We have 3 children so i don t really have much chocie I need to earn some money.
  • I would speak to the CAB and discuss this matter with them, but in normal circumstances it is very unlikey to get DLA for a broken ankle. Good luck :)
  • Thankyou for ur advise. Don t think i will try. Just thought it was worth asking the question

Have the hospital referred you for OT? My mum had her wrist pinned, and it was only when we asked about it that they realised they had forgotten to refer her! Her recovery has been aided considerably by this - at one point they thought she would not be able to drive again, but now it looks like she will make a full recovery.
    Gone ... or have I?

I receive DLA care component as I have mental health issues. I agree with the poster who said speak to CAB.

highly unlikely to get DLA for a broken ankle unless there are substantial long term complications that affect mobility to the point where the sufferer is unable to walk without severe discomfort for a minimum of 9 months. Lower mobility and the care components are highly unlikely to apply in this situation either.
