Proving a company got a letter

This is in relation to my post below re: the DSRs.
On the phone the company have refused to accept that the DSRs even apply to me.
As such I have today sent an email to their address stating I am exercising my rights under the DSRs.
I also want to send a letter, recorded delivery, today to make sure they can't deny receiving it.
How can I prove the contents of that letter should it come to the point whereby they deny receiving the letter, or claim it didn't contain a letter cancelling my order?

The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...

Take a photocopy of the letter, you can track the letter on the post office website
Or you could even fax it and print a delivery report0 -
Hi Dacouch,
What I am worried about is them saying something like - yes we got a recorded letter that day. It contained a lovely thank you note from what we thought was a satisfied customer. That was.... oooh... 8 days ago.
I know I can prove that they received SOMETHING, just wondering if I could prove specifically what they got, e.g. sending myself a letter at the same time maybe? (I know this works for patents etc)The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...0 -
you could write a reference number on the envelope and a matching reference letter on the letter then photocopy the two together - ensure that they overlap and so are both visible even if not completely so, as only the code and address need to be visible on the envelope (or ask the nice person in the PO to do this for you, perhaps for a small fee ) if they dispute it, ask them to provide the nice letter and registered envelope.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
Fax or email, as has been suggested.0

Provided you used a published, or otherwise advised email address, then the courts should consider sending of the email to be sufficient. Under the DSR, any cancellation by email is taken to be effective from day the email was sent.
With respect to a letter though, if you absoloutely want tracking, I would use Special Delivery. This is often handled separately from the standard post and is tracked at every stage (recorded often is not actually logged as being delivered).0 -
Thanks everybody.
They responded to my email so I don't need to worry about this now. But was an interesting point to think about! The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...0 -
