National Trust - WWYD?

Hiya

I signed up for NT membership a year ago and recently received a letter of renewal stating when the direct debit was due out. I cancelled the direct debit online and then contacted the NT who said they would cancel anything at their end and asked if I had received new membership cards. I said I had and they asked if I would return them which I did.

Now I have received more new membership cards with a letter asking for payment in the form of cash or direct debit. Should I ignore the letter but use the card? I am tempted to do so. Why would they bother to send out new cards before they have received payment? Seems daft to me.

WWYD?
Thanks

  • Using the card would be unethical - effectively theft of service. I would contact them to make them aware of the error and dispose of the card.

They did exactly the same to me. I cancelled the DDM and informed them we were not renewing.

I did try ringing them to let them know they were still sending me stuff but they wouldn't accept any instructions from me as I am the Mrs of the Mr & Mrs - although I had filled out the forms and payments were from my account. Basically I told them that my instruction was all they were getting and if they wanted to carry on wasting the charitiy's money then I was glad we were no longer funding them! Strangely the payment reminders stopped immediately.

That's bizarre. They probably have as many female members as male -- if not more.

Use of the card would constitute acceptance of their contract and they could then pursue you for full payment. Thats if they didnt deem your actions fraudulent and involve the police.

Right, so yet again I have to return the thing do I? What if I had binned it believing it to be junk mail?

NT never check the things when you go in anyway. They just look at them and it they seem right, off you go.

Not like English Heritage where they check them against the database etc.

That's the equivalent of saying that stealing from shop is ok if they don't check your bags on the way out!!

I just binned ours - really wasn't going to waste the price of a stamp on them.
