3 day UK break : Cotswolds or Peak District

Evening All,

Looking for a Hotel or Guest House recommendation please. My wife and two daughters (8 & 6), would like to take me away for a three night break this coming weekend (Sat, Sun, Mon nights). We quite enjoy the Peak District or Cotswolds, but to be frank anywhere in the English countryside and within walking distance of a pub (sleeping in the pub would be good). A family room would be ideal 'cause the kids get bervous on their own.

Many places I've looked at want over £100 a night for a family room. Can't help thinking this is expensive, am I being mean, or is this the going rate.

Anyway, if anyone has got a recommendation, please let me know.

Cheers

J

Try Castleton in the Peak District - there are several pubs there and i'm sure at least a couple of them have accomadation. There is some good walking locally and things like the Blue John Caverns to keep the kids interested.

One of the pubs is an InnKeepers lodge so may well do family rooms.

try the CSMA motor museum holiday cottages in Bourton on the Water - they are right in the centre & are really well equipped - we are members of the CSMA (free to join) and it cost us £216 for a 3 night break (Fri, Sat & Sun) nights over Easter. There is a pub right opposite (loads in the town within walking distance) and lots of places to explore. You get free entry to the motor museum and also discount tickets to other places in Bourton on the Water. We stayed in cottage 4 which had a large twin room plus a bed settee in the upstairs lounge so you could all fit into a 1 bedroomed cottage.
Hope you have a great weekend!

We were in the same dilemma over the kids' last half-term and with literally hours to spare, rang round few hotels in Stow-on-the-Wold. Found lovely inn right in the centre, beautiful wooden-beamed family room - huge, lots of character (even beams in the bathroom!), good breakfasts and other meals also available at not too much, for £90 a night. Recommended!

Forgot to add, though right in the centre, it was very quiet. Also that lots of other lovely pubs nearby including reputed oldest inn in England!

Actually, on reflection, I think I am doing hotel a disservice - if I remember correctly, it was actually £80 a night for the family room.
