ive got at least £2000 in my account, im thinking of buying some premium bonds with it, is this a good idea, i wouldnt have thought id need to get at the money

Depends on whether you want a return - or are happy to leave the basic sum against the possibility of prize wins?
The one unarguable fact is you will be able to release the money within a few days, if you need it. But it's best to buy, if that's your choice. just prior to the month end. As you need to hold the Bonds for a month before they go into the prize draw.
