train tickets 16-25 railcard

Just a really quick question

I'm just about to buy some train tickets online. I've noticed i can save quite a lot with a 16-25 railcard. If i buy the tickets on this option will i have to show the rail card at any time?
Are the tickets that arrive any different to the standard tickets?
thanks!

Yes, you will have to show your railcard. If you do not have a railcard, or you do not have your railcard, you will be charged full fare.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Second what dmg said. Also, the tickets are slightly different in that if you buy saying that you have a railcard, they have a small YP (i.e. Young Persons) printed on them to show that the person who bought them said they were eligible for the discount.
  • Thanks.
I am a student and i'm sure i used to have a railcard. I guessing showing my student I.D if they ask isn't the same?

Buy one there well worth the money if you make a few journeys.

You can apply online and they can take the photo from your passport. (provided your under 26)

  • Hmmm. Not sure if i'd save the £26 it's going to cost me. On the one journey i want to book tonight it's saving £9 and i use Merseyrail passes monthly already (don't think they can be used for those.)

    OK okay.

Hmmm I wouldnt book a ticket claiming to have a young persons railcard.

It might end up being more costly for you in the long run.
