fiats 3rd year warranty on a sedici

ive got a 07 sedici, only had it for 6 weeks, and for about the past week i been having trouble losing power when i accelarate uphill, and just yesterday the clutch completely went while i was driving,
ive read that there is a 3yr manufacturers warranty but the 3rd year is with the dealer, which is arnold clark.
i spoke to arnold clark and they said they cant tell me if its covered by warranty until they see it, but im worried that they will just say its wear and tear, and not covered so i will have to pay. how can i find out whats covered by the manufacturers warranty, if i have to argue my case with arnold calrk.
i was always under the impression that a 3yr warranty means you dont have to pay for 3years for any repairs,
the car has done 14,000 miles and i find it difficult to understand how a clutch would need replacing after 2 and a half yrs and 14,000 miles
can anyone give me any advice please.

A clutch shouldn't need replacing at that age, but Arnold Clark......
All you can do is take it into the dealer to get fixed and see what they say, nobody can guess what they'll say or do. I think they'll probably fix such a fault esp on low miles- if you were over 60K you'd be snookered, but who knows. If Arnold Clark is unwilling- you could always seek opinion of other Fiat dealers?

Fiats third year normally needs to be transferred when you buy the car at a fee of £28. They then send you a certificate of warranty.
Although its a dealer warranty it doesnt need to be Arnold clark you take it too. Just a fiat dealer who will investigate it.0 -
I have seen a clutch burnt out in an afternoon!0

It may only be two years and 14k miles but if the original owner used it for pure town driving and as was not exactly gentle then yes it could be worn out, or alternatively it may be the dual mass flywheel that has gone rather than the clutch itself.0

if (like my girlfriend) you ride the clutch, constantly covering it with your left foot even when you know you wont be needing to change gear for a while,or you like to hold the car on hills for far too long with the clutch or like i see a lot of folk doing these days, rolling back and then pulling forward, then rolling and then pulling forward (you see the pattern) for ages at traffic lights. and as another has said towing heavy trailers, will all wear a clutch out, and rapidly (the towing being an exception but will add to wear over time).
my girlfriend even denies she is doing it,even when i point to her foot just touching the pedal and no more she seems to think this wont add to wear,it might not when stationary but when driving over our roads bumping up and down her foot will be pressing on the pedal and as her ankle relaxes it also goes further down on the pedal, but she refuses to admit to this practise.
anyway rant about my girlfriends annoying driving over. what im trying to say is theres no set limit to when a clutch will wear out,if its been damaged or abused then you won't get warranty and might find your hand being forced to pay arnold clark to repair it, you will at least be looking at a bill for inspection if its found to be your fault.
so an idea would be to get quotes from garages to renew your clutch assembly and bite the bullet and pay for it yourself at a competitive rate rather than being forced to pay arnold more money than is necessary. as no doubt they will find this to be your fault....work permit granted!0 -
thanks for the replies, i willprobably take it to arnold clarks first just incase it is covered by the warranty, you never know, i might get lucky.
failing that it is a good idea to get other quotes from other fiat dealers, but my problem is that i am unable to drive the car now due to the problem, so need to arrange to be towed to whereever i need to go.
AA recovered me back to my house when it went.
could i ring fiat and ask for details of the manufacturers warranty so that i know what should be covered, just in case arnold clark try and get out of it. or do you think i should just argue the fact that a clutch should last longer than 2.5 yrs and 14,000 miles?

Theres not a lot of point.
If its the standard 3rd year Fiat warranty you are not covered. You must transfer that and get a certificate of entitlement within 30 days of ownership.
The 3rd year warranty is an insurance based dealer warranty provided by an external provider.
I doubt a clutch would be covered anyway
You can give them a call and you might get lucky and get the dealer warranty reinstated but I wouldnt mention the fault first. Probably be an exclusion period too.0 -
Have a search around the internet to see if it is a known problem.
For instance, there is a known issue with some vauxhall clutches which could have affected my car. I read about it on the owners club forums and rang my dealer with the symptoms I read about. Hey presto, new modified clutch fitted (just in case).I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -

so when arnold clark strip it and say "oh bad luck its a wear and tear item thats caused the clutch to fail so you need to pay for the repair, and our time striping it". will you actually know what your looking at to determine if they are telling the truth?
if you insist on taking it to them, before they even touch the car ask for a quote to replace the clutch,if its too expensive then i honestly wouldnt take the risk, you might find it cheaper getting the clutch done elsewhere....work permit granted!0 -
2.5 Year old clutch - you have no hope.0
