Sagging mattress

Not actually sure if i do have any rights but thought maybe someone on here might be able to advise me. I can always phone trading standards and ask them right enough.
I bought a bed approx 1.5 years ago and already the mattress is sagging, even though i have been turning it every few months. There is an obvious dip in the middle of the bed and its now so uncomfortable to sleep in. I thought mattresses were supposed to last years. Really not sure if i would have any rights here...what do you think??
If it makes any difference I paid about 700 or 800 pounds for the base and mattress, so it wasn't a cheap one.
Thanks

I would contract the shop you bought it from and explain the problem. This should be your first port of call before contacting trading standards.
An £800 bed should last MUCH longer than that, so under the sale of goods act you might be entitled to a repair or replacement.
Do you still have some form of proof of purchase?
If the shop won't play ball, THEN talk to trading standards.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Without proof of purchase, Trading standards might not be able to help you but your complaint will help them isolate a rogue trader.
Obviously you have contacted the retailer BEFORE asking here and just presuming there would be a problem - so what did they say?0 -
Luckily I do have proof of purchase still. I have not yet contacted the seller as i was not entirely sure if I had any rights, but I will do that now and if they dont play ball I will then contact Trading standards.
Thanks for your replies.0 -
It genuinely saddens me that we are now a nation that presumes an issue like this before contacting all parties involved.0

What is the make and model of the mattress?
Pinkshoes is right that a £700 to £800 mattress should last for many years if looked after properly.
All items should have a design life, and a mattress for that price should have a long design life. So even if the guarantee is 12 months, then if the mattress needs repair or replacement within the design life, then the manufacturer should cover at least some of the cost of repair or replacement. For example: if a mattress with a design life of 5 years needs replacing after 4 years, then you would probably have to pay 80% of the cost of replacement.
Your point of contact should be the retailer, and they will liase with the manufacturer.0
