contact lenses

Spent the last 3 days in Dolland an aitchinson sorting out my contacts.
Had an eye test on Friday, went in on monday for an assesment for lenses, then again today for a `teach` to learn how to put them in and out,
Only thing is, i`ve just got home and can`t see the computer properly or even read !!
Surely they should have got me to read something whilst I was there to see if things were ok.. so now I have to go in AGAIN to have them adjusted!
Wondering if I should just go back to glasses !!
My plan was to alternate between contacts and glasses ... they had an offer on at D&A, whereas if you got contacts with them you could get 50% off specs and a free pair of prescription sunglasses. I took up the offer after the sales girl told me it was only valid for a week.I paid a total of £112.
I now feel like I HAVE to continue with the contacts, even if they don`t work for me, because I got the offer. Do you think they might ask for the rest of the money for the specs and the sunnies back if I decide not to continue with the contacts??
Arggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!

I used the same offer a couple if years back and it is a nice moneysaver. Pesevere with the contacts, it's worth it in the end. Next time you're in tell them you want to test reading. It is a bit different in lenses as they're closer to your eye than glasses and they take a little getting used to.
I had mine lasered recently anyway. It's the future - well, that and garlic bread0 -
I had the same thing, it turned out that I needed toric (weighted) lenses that stay in the same position. The normal lenses were the right prescription, but because they were turning on my eye, I couldn't see anything!
That was all years ago. I would suggest persevering with the lenses. I've needed glasses since I was eight years old and I LOVE my contacts. Give them a far go. You will get it right, and it's so nice to not have to reply on glasses all the time."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Normal contacts are the same all the way round so there is no correct way up. Torric lenses have a correct way "up" as they are predominately used for people with astigmatism (sp) where the lenses need different magnification properties in different parts of the lense to counter the condition.
It does take time to get used to lenses... mine werent too bad but my ex took ages as she kept "forgetting" she had the lenses in and putting her glasses on and then complaining that she couldnt see anythingAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I am going to try the new Orthox lenses.
These are ones that you put in overnight and then you can see clearly during the day without glasses or lenses.
I think they are more expnesive initially.
They are for low/mid short sight and cater for some degree of astigmatism.
(check the website for exact presription range).0 -
I've never understood what toric lenses were!
I've got monthly disposables which are £12ish for one normal/one toric. They're from specsavers and that includes the lotions and a lens check each year.0 -

I'm not an optician but my understanding is that if you have astigmatism your eyes are not quite the right shape.
It means that to correct your vision you need different magnification is different parts of your eye.
For glasses it's easy because they make different parts of the lenses different (but your glasses must be fitted centrally hence fitting is important so more important to see a proper optician rather than buy on line).
With contact lenses it's a bit more tricky as lenses that are just plain round will spin in your eye.
They have to make them so they don't spin and it's important to put then in the right way up (although even if you don't they should find the right way to go after a few minutes).
Toric lenses are now pretty good but for dailies there are a limited set of prescriptions so you might find monthly lenses are better.
Just depends whether your prescription fits what the manufacturers make.0 -
I used to pay £18 a month with spec savers for their care package (includes toric monthly lenses (plus replacements for lost/ damaged lenses), solution and lens checkup appointments).
Personally I like the idea of the lenses you simply leave in for a month then dispose of but the only places I found them for torric lenses previously were online only and whilst I am sure they would be fine I am more comfortable sticking something in my eye that comes from a large chain rather than an unknown website. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Specsavers is currently £17.50 for soft toric lenses with all the check ups & solutions etc.
They send me three massive bottles of solution each quarter which I can never get through, so at the moment I'm paying £14.50 p/m without solutions (but everything else). You also get 1/2 price glasses & other offers etc."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I suspect there are different prices for monthly torics and daily torics.0
