Car damaged in Irish Republic - help needed!
Hi, I was parked in a 5-star hotel's carpark whilst watching the International Poker Open last Friday and sustained a sizeable dent which is going to cost just below £1000 to fix (rear passenger door needs replaced by no damage elsewhere).
I have emailed the hotel who seem to be quite co-operative in looking at their CCTV and await a response as to how this happened.
What is the legal position if the person lives in ROI and I live in Northern Ireland/UK regarding insurance and liability? Help much needed/appreciated!!

i would of thought there wouldnt be an issue.. most insurers cover you for ROI+europe as standard now
you can still claim if he/she is insuredSealed pot challenger # 10

Also meant to ask, how would I make a complaint to the Irish police about hit and run if necessary (camera shows them assess damage and drive off for example)?"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0

to be honest i think it would be classed as failure to stop at the scene of an accident and not so much hit and run
ring them and report itSealed pot challenger # 10

Wait and see what happens.
Firstly the CCTV angle will need to be right otherwise it might not show who did the damage.
Secondly if it does its possible the Hotel wont give you the info under DPA
When you say dent do you think its a door bang or full on accident?0 -
wont the police be able to get the tape and therefore get details of the car?Sealed pot challenger # 10

think they reversed into it by the look of it, pushed the door in quite alot so it needs replaced, too damaged just to be pulled out"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0 -
Had the same thing happen to me in B&Q carpark once. Rear wing pushed in about 2 inches in depth and about a foot long. Also part of the rear door damanged and had a scrape all along the rear door and wing with red paint emedded in my silver paint. Was only in store a short time and the car park was packed so I can't belive that nobody witnessed it but nobody reported it to customer services. Security examined CCTV but the camera was pointing the wrong way at the time. Reported it to the police and they took a sample of the paint in case an reports came in but I never heard anything again. May be worth reporting to the polcie in case they want to preserve any evidence?0

You would need to find out if the Irish RTA is the same as ours.
If it is then the collision must have taken place at a time the public readily had access to the carpark. By rights you should have reported it when you found the damage. If it were dark at then time and not fully clear on the cctv what's to say the damage didn't occur pulling onto your own drive once you got home?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I didn't report to the police at the time as it was dark and I didn't notice until I was going to work the next day and after I got home.
I know it happened then however because of the fact it wasn't there when I left and it was only time I stopped all day - damage consistant with someone reversing into it!"Well, we are a Christian country, it is an important part of our make-up and I don't see any reason to change." David Cameron0 -

No, you think it happened thenas yet you have no evidence.
Someone could have reveresed into it at any time between when you can say you checked it and there wasn't damage until the damage was found.:rolleyes:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
