28 days doesn't matter. You have rights under the Sale of Goods Act to return an item which is faulty. For the first 6 months the retailer has to prove the damage is your fault. Since it was clearly faulty when you took it out of the packaging they will be unable to do this, hence your friend is entitled to a full refund under law.

How much are we talking about btw?

I wouldn't do that to a friend and if a friend did it to me, well I'd think the money I've lost is a bargain to pay to find out how much of a cow she is.

I'd tell her one more time that you need the money, that she has sold you a dud, and that if she doesn't pay you your money back, that is the end of your friendship.

Then badmouth her to everyone you mutually know ;)

Are you sure you weren't given the 2nd hand one, in the new packaging, and that's why she's reluctant to get a refund. That way she'd have a new keyboard for nothing.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
