Not sure about the active part, I assume you have no creditcards etc?
Its porbably worth applying for one of the vanquis/aqua cards etc and for example doing your weekly shops on it but pay in full each month to build some profile.Debt Free Marathon: Start 01/06/09 £16714 - Current Position £14514 - Finish Line Xmas 20100 -

Its abit of a catch 22 i'm sorry to say.
I would advise opening for example a catalogue account or even apply for a capitol one card, which are pretty easy to open. As you have no current credit history on your credit file. Lenders are not able to see a payment history to ensure your a good payer etc.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I think the JD Williams group are easy to get credit with, if you like their clothes
Others on here have reported easy acceptance and quick limit raises
Capital One aren't as easy... Could try Vanquis or Aqua.... Watch out for Vanquis though as currently you can only pay over the phone and they have a tendency to muck up direct debits...0 -
You could have a credit score of 5 trillion, still won't make lenders accept you. It could be endorsed by the Queen but that won't improve your credit worthyness.
Open some catalogue accounts, apply for an overdraft on your current account, perhaps think about applying for a contract mobile phone. Be aware though, you'll damage your credit history by applying for multiple products in a short space of time. We’ve had to remove your signature. Hi Titch!
Before you go applying for any credit accounts, let's find out a bit more about your situation.
You have an Experian score of 999 - which although nearly meaningless (I'll get to that bit), certainly does indicate that you have at least had credit in the past.
Am I to believe that you used to have credit which is now all paid off and the accounts closed?
You must have atleast one active account on your credit report, in so much as your current account, that should appear as an active account and will contribute to a lenders decision.
Whoever told you "You won't get credit because you don't have any" has misled you. Some creditors will take into account the conduct of closed accounts.
How many active accounts do you have on your credit file?
Do you have any defaults, satisfied or otherwise, on your credit file?
Now two points:
1. The Experian credit score means very little as it is only Experians interpretation of your credit worthyness. Every lender will rate you differently because they have a different score sheet, with different criteria.
2. The Experian credit score doesn't seem to be affected by Defaults which is a massive flaw. I noticed that when my mother's £15,000 bank default, with £12,000 left to pay, dropped off her credit file, her Experian socre didn't change by even one point- 900 before, 900 after. Don't trust this score!
The only information you can glean from the Experian credit score is whether or not you are heading in the right direction. It shouldn't be considered as trustworthy for what category you fall into.
If you could tell us a little more about the content of your credit report we'll see about pointing you in the right direction.
It might be that whoever told you what they did is talking rubbish, maybe you need to open a sub-prime credit card so that you have atleast one credit account, maybe you just need to go to another lender. Let us know the details and we'll see

It seems to me that lenders are all individual too. I got refused a Barclayloan for a grand a few years ago, but that didn't stop me getting a mortagage and six credit cards shortly afterwards.
As already mentioned, a good way in is an overdraft application, a mortagage (if you need one!) and then go for your own bank-issued credit card. Eg. If you've always banked with Halifax and had a good record with them, go into your local branch and say you want to apply for their visa/mastercard. Its hard to believe they would refuse you if they know you, you're ' a safe pair of hands' and you have an income.0 -
i have had active credit before but have all bin paid off. i did have 1ccj but was all settled and that was over 6 years ago.
My wife on the other hand has had 2 mortgages which have bin paid off 2 credit cards that have bin payed off and no longer have. A car loan over 5 years and was paid off in 2 years. She only has an active mobile account all others are settled. we are both on the electrol roll. my wifes credit file is perfect no smudges what so ever, as for mine yes a ccj which i can except might hinder which was over 6 years ago. i have a mobile on contract same as my wife. We live in rented accomodation because it works better that way at the time. We had to have a credit check done when we moved into our house but that does not help.
we have tried for a burtons card an overdraft with our bank a credit card with our back and are trying to get a car through black horse but they are all saying no WHY WHY WHY
Summary
My wife has an impeccable credit file as SHE sqeaks when she walks and i have a smudge.0 -

Really? I pay my Vanquis Card by transfering the money direct out of my bank account to them. I don't have DD set up and never have to deal with them on the phone.0 -
