Stagecoach Theatre Arts School?

Options
Just wondered if anyone had any experience of the above, whether their kids enjoyed it. My little girl is a right little performer and my mom has offered to pay for lessons for her.

It seems a little pricey at £318.00 per term from 7 upwards. At the moment it is only £157.00 per term as she is only 5. It is just for Saturday mornings. She is an only child and loves the interaction with other children so it seems a good idea.

Any opinions/experiences would be gratefully received!

  • A lot of people i know dont like stage coach, We asked around, However this didnt put us off and thebenfitsout weighed the negatives, and our daughter almost 7 does attend. she had nagged a long time!!! (another grandchild attending courtesy of a grandparent)

To us she is getting an hour of singing, an hour of dancing and an hour of acting in one session, rather than 2 or 3 different nights/weekends. we researched other schools/groups in our area and this was the only one we could fit in as we have 3 busy children, and didnt want to comit on a weekend.

She has been going since Easter, We pursuaded the teacher to put her in the class above, (7+) as she is an older 6, At the end of summer term concert each group put on a little performance, must admit I found the youngsters very boring and was hugely relieved we had put her in the older group.

our daughters loves her Thursday class, one benefit to her brother is she no longer sings in nasal style, and has developed a pretty little voice in tune !!

you can spot, the over actors, the shy ones, the ones with genuine stage talent etc a mile off.

My daughter attended Stagecoach for over 2 years when she was little. She absolutely loved it. An hour and half on a Saturday was just about ok. She is now 8 and have decided not to send her anymore .Two main reasons..... the class would be 3 hours long - this would practically take up my whole Saturday /Sunday which I cannot do or if she went during the week it would be after school.....how ridiculous is that????? For a child of 7/8 to put in an extra 3 hours on top of a very full school day is just too much . Would you be happy working an extra 3 housrs after a day at work? She now does dancing for an hour once a week and in the new year she will be going to 1/2 hour singing lessons...... We are happy with that arrnagemnent.... and so is my younger child who will be joining her soon. Oh yes the second reason is the cost...... we really thought that paying over a thousand pounds a year for one class for one child was just too much money! Best of all we now have weekends free to family stuff together which is brilliant!

My daughters class is 4-7 mid week, she is otherwise running about at home squabbling with her siblings during that time, she most definatly doesnt see it as work ! we were worried if she would find it shattering, but she proved us wrong ! I guess it comes down to how bad they want it ? ( she had nagged and nagged) and of course to a very generous grandparent !

The 3 hours are broken into 3 classes, with breaks for snack and drinks. She loves taking a packed lunch, as I dont let them take one to school. I guess it depends on the individual. we didnt want a weekend commitment either. We like to be able to go away and I have a son who plays rugby on a sunday morning ! i realy couldnt commit to a saturday.

OP - I think some are very anti it because of the cost, and some see it as pushy parents pushing talentless children ? :rotfl:

We chose seperate classes up until she started stagecoach, because I thought it was a huge amount of money to pay out for a child of reception age, and it meant we would be committed to having to go evey week. very often you get birthday party invites or get asked to play with a friend at the schoolgate etc.

She used to have a dance class (on a pay as you go thing at local leisure centre) and a seperate music singing lesson (we did commit to that termly, just as we have to swimming lessons) by dropping those she now has Mondays & Friday after school free, and I dont have to sit in a car for 3/4hour waiting for her class to finish while entertaining 2 other children.
