They do microfibre facial cloths in home bargins and in some of the cheap shops, a little smaller and in white.

this is a really interesting thread, looks like trial and error is the only option, everyone is so different.

I come from a family where everyone seems to have skin like a rhino, no allergies or dry skin for us ! My mum is 72 but looks 15 years younger and when I asked her a few years back what was the secret of her fabulous skin, the answer was Palmolive soap and Ponds moisturiser, never having worn make up and always having avoided the sun......I'm with her on the avoiding the sun thing, but I think I'll have to give the others a miss....

Thanks Jays - I think in the summer I will use the toner maybe a couple times a month as my skin seems to be able to handle more when the sun is out! However for the mo, whilst it's miserable and cloudy, I won't use the toner at all, did not realise it was for a different skin type as the Liz Earle package was for dry skin, so I thought it was ok... Will look into the Dermon 600, although I am not sure if this is for really intensive skincare rather than daily use?

Sun, come out wherever you are ;o)

I never use soap on my face and only wash it in the shower. I moisturise every other day and look 10 years younger than my actual age, with hardly any wrinkles! I didn't use soap on my kids until my hubby complained I was 'mucky' and should use Johnson's baby bath. The kids get wiped with fragrance free wipes when they've got food all over their face. Too much though and they get sore. I would much rather use a good old wet flannel like old style mums!

I'm sorry, I had to comment. Wearing make-up at age 8? I do hope it's only for playing games and not for leaving the house in.

I'll probably get slated for being a busybody and I know its none of my business, but I think children - esp. girls - grow up too quickly as it is (can't believe my DD will be 18 this year _pale_ ).

Sorry! that made me have to comment too! Until the mid 19th Century, the concept of children barely existed - they dressed and looked like miniature adults - now obviously we have great child protection laws etc that weren't around then, but in actuality, our kids today grow up SLOWER now than before 1800. I think if kids want to wear make up they can - as long as there happy and healthy, why judge?

(toner is really for people with a little too much oil in their skin).

This isn't strictly true Toners and Astringents are two different things.

Toners are to remove the last traces of cleanser and prepare the skin for moisturising. A toner from a good dry skin range will make the moisturizer work much better so everyone can use a toner providing they get the one that is right for their skin type. Some of the dry skin range ones actually feel quite oily and pre-moisturize before you smear on the creams.

Astringent is for use on oily complexions only and if you have dry skin avoid them. Some toners for oily skin or marked as purifying or clarifying will be very astringent and will dry out an already dry skin so avoid them.

I find normal Dove soap too drying for my face but their dove for sensitive skin is just perfect. I'm unlucky enouh to have sensitive AND spot-prone skin so can't use cleansers or moisturisers that are too rich or creamy or I'll break out in spots.
