We've always had a key meter, and want to go to quarterly billing, but due to British Gas not being able to find all our reconds, they won't allow us to do this as they think money is owed, now we cant get eletric unless money has been added to the key, so there is no debt....
is there any where i can make a complaint? or has anyone else had the same problem could give some advice...
thanks

Sorry.
Maybe you could be a little clearer? Have you only just moved into the property and there is a debt on the meter? Or are British gas saying you owe them money?
If you haven't moved in recently when did you move in and how long have you been making payments on the key meter?
They should be willing to change it if you have lived in the property for more then 12 months and have been using the key regularly. They may ask for a security bond which you will get back after 12 months providing you don't go into debt.0 -
If you want to go to quarterly billing you are in fact applying for credit - for potentially £hundreds.
Every firm has the right to refuse credit if they don't feel that a customer meets their criteria for allowing credit.
Do you mean that British Gas have done a credit check and based on that check are not prepared to give you credit?
As indicated above, if that is the case then if you offer to put down a returnable deposit they may be prepared to bill you quarterly.0 -

Of course
If you cannot get any satisfaction from BG customer service
call 0800 072 8632
or go to http://www.britishgas.co.uk/energycomplaint
or write to: British Gas Complaint Management Team, PO Box 3054, Eastbourne BN21 9FD"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
What do you mean they can't find your records? Can you be more specific?0

we have been living here for over 30 years and the key is used and paid fortnightly..its our only means of electric we dont get any without it, as tonight where on 26p and it would of ran out in the morning,
and they said they cant find all our records so cant find out if we owe them money or something close this..
going to call them again one last time, and if not i will complain and if no luck ill take it further....!

You may want to phone other companies to see if they will agree to change to a quarterly meter if you move supplier to them. Way to bypass this nonsense from British Gas, possibly?0

changing supplier will take weeks and the same process of a credit check would need to be performed with them being a brand new customer.0 -
Have you quoted to them your serial number? This is vital to be able to find an accurate account.0
