Recommended Washer Dryer

Options
Hi

I'm looking for a new washer dryer and would be interested to hear any recommendations on good machines.

I have been looking at either the

Bosch WVD2452BGB and the

Hotpoint AQM8F49U/V Aqualtis

any thoughts on the above and the best deals? and are there any other recommendations on any washer dryers?

To be honest I don't think there's many people on here who rate washer/dryers (perhaps do a search, see what people have to say). But if you really want one of those two then I think Bosch would be recommended over the Hotpoint.

    Hi

There is only 1 decent washer dryer on the market and that is from Miele. I think it is around £1,000. I know its a lot of money but all but Miele washer dryers are inherently unreliable and uneconomical.

    Good luck

Washer dryers aren't well thought of, in the industry, but customers like them. It gives you that possibility of drying something in a hurry, or when the weather's awful.

Bosch is, in general, a better make than Hotpoint but, in this case I'd go for the Hotpoint out of the two. That's because it's a more modern type of machine. It has a maximum 8kg wash load ... but it also has a 6kg drying load ... so you could wash and dry a 6kg load without having to take damp washing out and have it sitting about waiting to dry. It also has a higher spin speed.

The Bosch is a more old fashioned 5kg wash/2.5kg dry machine ... and you wouldn't want to be doing 2.5kg washes, just so that you could dry the whole load.

Someone once told me that the poor reputation of washer dryers was due to people ignoring the maximum drying loads and overloading the machines. I don't know if it's true - but it sounds likely!

P.S The other make to look at is AEG-Electrolux - their washer dryers have a relatively good reputation (better than Hotpoint) - but look at the maximum drying loads when you're choosing.

  • Having had a washer dryer I wouldn't recommend one tbh. I found they don't wash as well, are expensive, and if you use the dryer they leave a funny smell on your clothes, this is with Neff, Electrolux, and Hotpoint models. All different but all the same problems. Oh and if you wanted to dry a reasonable amount it takes ages! (sorry if you already have one and are aware of this, just wanted to warn you incase you weren't)
    Bump due 22nd September
  • No experience of them, but the Which report has AEG-Electrolux L16850 in second place. (First place was a Miele at £974).

We had an AEG16830 washer dryer - it washed very well but took an age to dry (we did only dry half loads) even with a 1600 spin. The bearings went just after the 2 year warranty was up but John Lewis replaced it anyway - and allowed me to change it for an AEG washer only with a 5 year guarantee - good old John Lewis.

When the engineer came out to the broken machine, he mentioned that as well as the bearings having gone a sensor was broken which is why the dryer didn't dry properly so it might be that generally they dry ok. The engineer did say that generally they have little trouble with AEG's as a whole but personally he would never have a washer dryer.
