EDF standing charges

I get both gas and electric from EDF. I'm a low user being a single man who is only at home at weekends and late evening (when I go straight to bed! Boring I know but that's my works pattern). Anyway can I get EDF to drop the standing charge on my account as its often more than the energy used?

Are you on prepayment meters? It appears EDF always charge a standing charge for PPM customers.

Have you considered switching supplier? It sounds like it would be worth it :)
(but they'll only allow this if there is no outstanding debt)

If you go for a tariff with no standing charge then there are (usually) two rates; the higher rate is charged for the first x units during a quarter, the cheaper rate after they have been used so you need to calculate which is best for you.If you are a very low user then normally the standing charge tariffs are better.

Hi MercMan -Work out what you are consuming using a year and have a look at switching to Ebico - the cost of the units is higher than most of the others, but they don't have a Standing Charge per day or a high rate for for the first units units used, which is ideal for a low user

As you can see from my previous link, EDF certainly do offer no standing charge tariffs for their credit meter customers - give them a call :)

Also check whether their Online Tariff Version 5 is available in your region. That EDF tariff is both no (daily) standing charge and is structured reasonably for low users.

i am with EDF and as a low user of elec and gas the no standing charge is a big reason I switched to them.

I also can say that they have been absolutely excellent in terms of customer service - a few things went wrong but were always dealt with swiftly. Freephone cust service number also a big plus.

There is no daily standing charge. It is a two-tier tariff so you do pay a contribution through paying more for Tier 1 units. But the Tier 1 electricity price is very cheap (cheaper than Ebico) and that's even before you hit Tier 2. The gas prices are more standard but still pretty inexpensive.

Plus the dual fuel direct debit discounts are flat rate so that's an extra £4 off your bill each month as well. (Credited quarterly.)

You can check the prices in your region on this pdf.

those electric prices are very good but edf still have the tariff removed on sites in my area.

I had a farce in jan 2008, switched to edf online tariff, atlantic switched me back somehow, rang edf told them to move me back. Well they did move me back but because the request to move back was done over phone I was on more expensive tariff. Was told tough luck rejoin again on comparison site, tried to but offer withdrawn in my postcode and hasnt came back since.

So I went back to atlantic and stayed since.
