in Credit cards
A friend has just returned from living abroad she moved to italy septmeber 2003.
she was on a payment plan at the time of her leaving a nominal 1 pound per month
She had a credit card debt when she left and is now wondering if this is statuary bared ? or whether the CC company took out a ccj.
I told her she should check her credit file but she thinks that might help them locate her is that correct ? I don't want to reccomend something for her to do then find i got her in trouble.
thanks

Sounds like your 'friend' stayed away from the UK for exactly SIX years for a reason!0

i'm not saying anything
she actually got back last june her marriage ended and she wanted to move back home.
other than perhaps her dubious reasans for returning after six years
how would she go about finding out if she has a ccj against her ?0 -
Damned! Where's the good advice when you need it?

Well she could (or someone else can) check with Trust Online, who hold CCJ records, but it will cost £8. (Trust Online dot org dot UK).0

it would be statute barred 6 years (plus one month) from date of last payment. Basically, if she last paid in Sept 2003 then in October 2009 the debt cannot be pursued. However, the CCJ may remain as this will stay for 6 years from date of issue - however the debt would still be statute barred meaning that she would not have to repay it - but she does have to make sure that the dates are right! So if she's unsure then give it extra time, don't be too hasty.
The fact of the CCJ has no impact on her returning to the UK so long as she does not apply for credit or go on the electoral register for a year or whatever....
Make sense? But either way, contacting the CRA's will link back to the old address unless she has a full 6 year history to use, so if it is 5 years and 10 months either lie and say it was 6 years or wait 2 months (the CRA's ask for your last 6 years of addresses).....
