There's been a long-standing forum rule that we're not allowed to discuss Russian MP3 download sites here. Now there's a poll on the front page asking people's opinions of one particular one and generating enormous publicity for it.
Why the anomaly?

Nothing wrong with the poll, but to name the site and potentially send out the poll as part of the tip could be a PR disaster

Fingers xed that either it's not part of the tip, or that the site name is removed.

This weekend three major newspapers carried stories about allofmp3.com - including the Sunday Times including it in a price comparison! I took the decision that by putting it in the controlled environment of the poll, in a non-recommending way is not an issue.

It's important to remember I am legally the publisher of the forums. I take a decision not to allow uncontrolled discussion of illegal file sharing on the site as we don't have the resources to monitor it. That is different to a poll, carefully written by me, in a non-recommending way, taking into account the legalities, on a specific site - not a range of different sites, based on research.

Thanks for the clarification Martin. I suppose we'll have to wait for a "test case" before anybody truly knows the legality.

allofmp3 went down for a while and everyone speculated it was gone forever.
When it came back up EVERYBODY was talking about them - Now even here
