I didn't see the point of paying for save the dates at all. Personally, I really dislike the magnets and other things. If someone sent me a magnet with their wedding date on it wouldn't sit on my fridge for the best part of a year lol.

We just called/texted/emailed/wrote to people (as appropriate for each person) and told them the date. Simple. :)

Going to send invites probably three months before the date.

Still undecided on whether to put gift info in. I know it's poor etiquette but everyone seems to do it these days. If I do put it in, there'll be a lot of "really, you don't have to get us anything!!" prefacing the info. :)
  • When my sister got married they rang round the major people (close friends, grandparents, aunties and uncles etc) as soon as the venue was booked to confirm those people, and then the invites went out about three months before (so December for a March wedding and September for a December wedding).

We're getting married 6 days before Christmas and our invites went out last week, I think 8 months is a bit premature.

Personally I think you are about right......We received invitations in March for a September wedding, exactly 6 months ahead, but that was not a Bank Holiday, nor was it summer holidays.

We've got quite a few friends / family who are teachers / have kids and we know they will plan holidays (last week of holidays also seems to be an extremely popular time with them all...).

The RSVP date is also going to be very very long as I dont expect people to RSVP that early, I just want them to be warned that its going to happen :) Probably set the RSVP date for beginning of July ish. Hopefully people will know by then.

We're not bothered about gifts to be honest but have already have enough people ask what we want, and insist on getting us something. Hence we're popping a note with the information saying we don't expect gifts but if you want to get us something then feel free to check out this website :)

I am sending out invites just after christmas for an October wedding, as its on the friday before half term, it means people will have plenty of time to book time off if needed. RSVP doesn't have a date as they can let us now right up to 5 days before as venue very flexible about it and only need firm number by then!
