Is it true van drivers and truck drivers now get told not to pick up trade platers under any circumstances due to insurance costs ? Someone said trucks are now only insured for the driver and not passengers ? Does this sound right ?
I ask as a friend starting plating a few weeks ago and he is having a nightmare getting picked up.He spent 6 hours at a services the other week with no way of getting off it.

Shocking that he gets paid £20 for the first 50 miles then 25 pence per mile after that but he has to plate with no expenses. He was finding it tough to get picked up and a few drivers mentioned the above.I think he is only about 50 so he would not get free travel like OAPS who seem to do this work.Apparently a truck driver picked up a plater and had an accident and the plater was badly injured. The haulage company went into liquidation due to it going to court.

Usually involves getting to the pick up point or back from the delivery by hitching a lift
