How forgiving are gamestation?

Went into gamestation with son and his ps3 and games with the intention of trading in ps3 for xbox elite +2 game deal (£199). He received £227 for his trade in and we then were considering whether to purchase the adaptor and membership there but it was cheaper on amazon. At that point the guy through into the loop a refurbished xbox 360 20g. £140 including one new game. So we chatted about it and he said that 20g was loads and personally he had only used 5g on his. Bearing in mind I was also purchasing a second for my youngest for Xmas. He got one for us opened it to reveal what was essentially a brand new machine, same warranty etc and I also purchased the extended. My son decided to go for the 20g and used his remaining £87 to buy some pre owned games. It was only when we got home that I realised that the halo game (which would have been his other choice on the elite deal) had actually cost him £32.99. So what he has ended up with is a lesser spec machine 1 new game and 1 preowned for £173.99. I am absolutely gutted fir him as we would rather had spent the extra £26 and got the elite. My question is do we have any rights to return this and the other and get the two elites instead. I know it will cost more but I would rather pay the extra. The seal is not broken on the second one but the guy in the shop opened the first to show us before we had made the decision to go with it. I am feeling sick to the stomachs over this. The guy helping was great and was only trying to be helpful but we have come away with not so good a deal.

I've found Gamestation to be very obliging in the past, especially when ex husband gets things that are either not suitable or are duplicates.
Go back with the goods and ask, the worst that can happen is that they refuse but I really think they will oblige. Make sure you point out it was guy in shop who opened the box and not you, and that the other seal is intact.Herman - MP for all!0 -
20gb is nowhere near enough now anyway. I've got a 20gb model and every time I want to install a game (which saves spinning the disk, as 360s tend to sound like jet engines when running) I have to uninstall the previous one and can only have one game installed and maybe one or two demos. Considering DLC and everything else you can get on the 360 you need at least 60gb.
Furthermore the refurbished model may not have the jasper chip while the new elite likely will.0 -
Hi Vyle
Thanks for your reply, what exactly is the 'Jasper Chip'
Update:
Gamestation were superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rang a different store today as the one in the town centre was closed (we don't have Sunday shopping in the town centre but have it in the mall).
They could not have been more helpful, they basically refunded everything back to my son's gift card (they had put the trade in money on a gift card) and we started again. We had not planned to get the Wireless adaptor or the live membership from them as we can get both for £80 of Amazon and theirs was more expensive but they had a deal where we could get the adaptor and membership for £80 when buying with a console, so they got that sale as well today.
We also purchased an extended warranty with them as well.
With regards to the second console they refunded it and I have decided to wait a little longer to get it as if I buy it now the membership would have been from today and as he won't get it until Xmas it seemed a bit pointless.
I do intend to go back to Gamestation as they were so great and they also said I could have my specific game choice as the ones they have on offer currently are a bit old for my 9 year old.
Absolutely brilliant can't recommend them enough£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

Always nice to see the odd good outcome and good display of customer service being posted as well as all the slatings companies get. Really glad they sorted you out at Gamestation and I am thinking of getting either a PS3 or Xbox 360 so will more than likely get it from them now.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

Glad you got a good result. I thought you wouldn't have a problem, I've always found them to be very good, customer service wise.Herman - MP for all!0

Glad you got it sorted.
The jasper chip is, essentially, a more efficient chip in the console that makes it less susceptible to catastrophic hardware failure.0 -
Hi Vyle
I looked it up on the internet and it said if you had a certain batch no and above then you were likely to have the jasper chip. My son's was higher so I think he is okay.

I'm finding Game and Gamestation being very helpful and customer friendly...probably for the fact that they're the best competition for each other and both want to be number one...
...you could just go to CEX. Hhmm...0 -

Game and Gamestation are owned by the SAME company. GS has shabbier shops but cheaper prices (to appeal to gamers) and Game are more parent friendly ( no loud rock music playing) but have higher prices.
Thought everyone knew that by now.0 -
Just the same as banks who are owned by the same parent company and don't compete against each other?
Just because my post doesn't actually indicate the ovbious, they are two seperate bodies in their own rights. Each with have different MD's who will want their revenues to be better than the others.
Thought everyone would know that.0
