Dog ate my sock!

Hey all,
I have a very very greedy Norfolk Terrier and I'm pretty sure he's eaten at least one of my pop socks. I wouldn't even mind so much but I'm pretty sure he coughed it up this morning but had re-eaten it before I could do anything. He's being a bit quiet at the moment and has horrible smelling breath,. Do you think I should take him to the vet or give it some time to pass?
Also, I have good insurance, any ideas if it would cover this? (My policy documents aren't with me at the moment).

What do your policy documents or the insurers website say about what is and is not covered? I'd class a pop-sock as a 'foreign body'.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Have had a quick look online, and it doesn't seem to mention that it wouldn't be covered. So hopefully we're ok there! Not that money would matter in this circumstance, but it takes the pressure off to know I'm covered...0

Thank you0

NoAngel, if I were you, before I did anything else, I would phone my vet for advice. If yours works the way mine does, if you phone the usual number, there will be a recorded out of hours message giving another number to ring. Good luck!!0

Your insurance should cover this. I had to make a claim recently when my dog swallowed a washing-up sponge and the vet had to cut open up his stomach and intestine.3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000

VET - NOW - do not give the dog anything, as if they need to operate he does not want a full stomach.
You also do not know if it is in his stomach or already in his intestine (he may or may not have coughed it up!) - when my dog managed to accidentally eat glass the vet told me that socks were the worst thing as they cut through the intestine like a cheese wire.
ETA - things like washing soda should only be tried really on the advice of the vet - I read loads of stuff on the net telling me to feed dogs cotton wool balls after they have eaten shards of glass - vet said this would have been a very bad idea in my dogs case!0 -
Thanks everyone for your advice. I called the vet who said to wait for another day and see if it passes, but if I notice that he seems to be becoming ill then to call them back immediately. They said it should hopefully pass natuarally, so I'm poo prodding. I realised afterwards that I shouldn't have asked for vet advice, so sorry about that, but thanks for the helpful comments
he seems fine at the moment, will keep you updated.0 -
If he is pooing that is quite positive as it would suggest there is not a blockage. contacting the vet is the correct advice but please go back to the vet if your dog stops eating and/or stops pooing. It will save you money in the long run - (keeping my answer in the spirit of money saving rather than veterinary advice!)If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

that is good news - watch out for discoloured poo too - very dark, blackish poo indicates bleeding somewhere in the GI tract - if you see this then ring the vet to discuss0

If my dog EVER stopped eating I would be straight to the vets! He is without a doubt the most greedy animal ever... He's still eating and pooping fine, looks good to me. I wonder how many he's eaten...0
