Paying Council service charges

I have recently had a flat I was living in transferred into my name. For the last 2 years I have been paying the council tax but not Council service charges (this was dealt through the company that owned the flat). Now that the flat has been registered in my name I want to start paying the service charges as well.
My question is besides the title deeds what else must I provide in order to sort this out?

What did the council tell you to provide when you 'phoned/wrote-to them??

What documents were you give by your conveyancing solicitor? Your solicitor should have informed the council of the change of ownership, but it's always a good idea to write to the address you have been given. Helpful website for all matters relating to leasehold properties:

The only thing that my solicitor provided me was the new title deed. Anyway I will go with a copy of this and my passport and try and sort it out with the council tomorrow.0

Your solicitor should have served the council with Notices of Transfer (who the new lessee is and dates) and Charge (details of any secured loans/mortgage) so they ought to know you own the property.
From experience, councils can be horrendously slow in sending info to new lessees - how long ago was the transfer? - so you can either chase them or wait for them to do their thing.
Check out the relevant authority's website as they should have a leaseholder section with info that may help put your mind at rest.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.
