Tesco Reduction Policy/Pricing

Is it set or does it vary by store?

My local Tesco has a small section of "last day" reductions, I don't know why they bother with some of them though.

A sandwich with a display until date of today was reduced from £1.80 to £1.65. Wow.

AFAIK it's down to the individual store manager as to the amount and time of reductions

as durham_girl says it's individual store policies, but normally (depending on store size) the reductions start at about midday, then reduced as the day goes further on.

Bakery stuff (in my store) ias done about 6pm, fresh stuff like produce and chilled is about 6pm too. It depends when the reducing team start, and the store policy. The best time i find to get reduced food is about 8pm

What i would do is go into the store over a week, different times from 5pm till 10pm, and see when the reductions are properly done. My local is about 8pm when everything is about 75%.

The stores want to gtet rid of the stock the is ood as if they don't, they need to use their waste budget to dispose of the stock

The pricing is set by management who then relay to the staff, as it was only mid morning then of course the sandwhich is only reducde by 15p, as teh day goes on it would be reduced further

Bear in mind, it could have simply been that they never noticed the sandwich when they were doing the reductions again.

I've noticed the reductions don't take into account the prices of special offers.

Tesco are currently selling packs of meat priced at £4 each or 3 for £10. I'd picked three packs and then noticed some meat in the yellow sticker fridge. The dates were use by that day, and had been reduced from £4 to £3.25.

The meat I was buying on the special offer was effectively £3.33 a pack, so IMO it was worth paying 7p more to get fresher meat.

Nope. Posted at 11.53pm and had been in store at around 8.30pm....

Yes, they do that a lot in mine.

Very often they have tiny reductions on something that is on a BOGOF offer too.

The BOGOFs still apply to reduced-to-clear goods in Tesco though: it's one of the few shops where this is still the case. In other supermarkets like Morrisons, BOGOFs don't apply to reduced stuff so a price reduction of 25% is effectively actually an increase (unless you really couldn't use 2 of them). I mentioned this to a member of staff who was doing the reductions and he agreed it was silly, but told me it was policy not to reduce prices by more than a certain amount at that time of day, regardless of offers like BOGOF which made it cheaper to buy fresher.
Years ago, Tesco tills used to deduct the full price of one item in a BOGOF offer, which meant that if they were half price and you bought two you would actually get them free, but unfortunately they corrected that anomaly.
