Can I use NTL ST box as a Freeview box?

I hope this make sense.

I have seen that my NTL bills are sky-rocketing so I'm looking to save some cash.

I currently use NTL for broadband, telephone (free calls anywhere and anytime - except 0870 (tish!!)) and digital TV in the bedroom.

I have a spare (and working) NTL set-top box so I am wondering whether anyone can tell me if and of course HOW I can set it up to watch the freeview channels subscription free and thus tell NTL where to stuff theirs. The model I have is a PACE 1000 phase 1b.

Failing this anyone know much one of this is going for on ebay?? LOL.

Thanks all for looking.
S.

I don't think so. From what I've read it's a cable only box and has no DTT/analogue tuner on board so can't receive Freeview transmissions.

    Wow - have a look on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29784&item=5742032955&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

At £50 you could sell it and buy a proper FV box!

It is illegal to sell the property of a cable provider , the stb is , and always will be , the property of the cable co.

If you decide to reapply for cable they will bill you for the old equipment.Ask ebay , they constantyl pull adds pertaining to cable boxes.

And no it cant be used as a freeview viewer , totally alien hard/software.

I appreciate that it may be illegal but it can't be that important to them if on 3 (three) separate occasions I wait in all day (what I mug I am) and they never turn up. To hell with their property.

Thanks for the info about unsuitable hardware/software though.

Perhaps I'll just give it to my local recycling unit - to SCRAP!
