Hi All
Wondered if anyone had any advice or have had this happened. Our great Grandmother has a freeview box with a harddrive recorder, just out of warranty and it broke. Rang currys to be told nothing you can do, then mentioned sales of goods act and the guy told me how it worked so far so good. Gave me another number to call, woman didnt have a clue. Called back original number and got some more advice but had to take it to the store. Went to the store no help, manager no help but in the end called the customer service number and they figured it out, nearly 2 hours in store.
Anyway they said as its 2 weeks out of warranty they would only give vouchers and on a sliding scale effectively after depreciation. So last year she paid £199 and they will give her back £158.
Told them to send out the vouchers and would take it up with a letter to the chief executive. Been searching and cant see any where that they can do this, anyone know if they can, they have said its a non repairable item so should she get back all of the cash, the same model is £189 now so though she has back quite a bit its not enough to buy a new one.
Thanks in advance for advice

A partial refund is perfectly acceptable under the sale of goods act.
If you want to extrapolate, they've taken £40 off for 1 year's use, so that values the life of the PVR at 5 years, which is pretty fair in my opinion.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

no not complaining, just want to know whats right and wrong, if they are right to do it then happy with that but if they arent then want them to follow the law.0
