You certainly wont be able to update your mums PC to Windows XP with your software. It only works on one PC.

this is only possible if you have the software CD's
HOWEVER This would be illegal due to licencing unless you have enterprise version software where the licence is for more than 1 PC

and to answer the original question you could not copy from your PC to your mother's as this woud not work

This wont work with XP because you have to register it within either 15 or 30 days or it stops working. When you try to do this the MS website will check and find that copy of the software already on their database and reject it.

    Don't think thats quite true,
have known of people to use a copied version as long as the key is valid it will work, unless microsofts new validation process checks multiple key registrations now.

The problem comes down to expense
why pay full price when you can get the same for less,

will it bother people if they can find a legitimate way of doing something which is suppose is breaking the law?????

Er it actually comes down to Microsofts inability to protect the genuine user.

Also, the Hardware for the Windows 98 will more than likely be unefficient to run XP.

That depends. I've put XP Pro on an old 98SE with only an Athlon 700 and 384Megs of memory and a 20Gig HDD and it runs fine for the G/Kids to play Diablo ll, and is networked wirelessly with this one.
