Switch Keeps Tripping
Options
Was watching tv earlier and the power to the sockets stopped. I went downstairs and put flicked the (fuse)switch back on and everything powered up again. 30 seconds later it had gone off again. I've narrowed the problem down to the tumble dryer. Everything on is fine but the second the tumble dryer gets plugged in the switch goes again. Its the switch in the fuse box with the 'test' button on that keeps tripping. I have tried the tumble dryer in other plug sockets and the same thing happens.
So I know the tumble dryer is the problem but what could that problem be? Do you think it will mean I need a new tumble dryer or could it just be a fuse on the tumble dryer?

hi mate,
could be loads of things i noticed if alot of stuff is on it can trip it also it could be the fuse in the tumble dryer or a bad earth on the plug or the cables in the plug could be touching (blue and brown) causing it to trip0 -
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't think it is because lots of things are turned on because even when I turned everything in the house off and just plug the tumble dryer in it still trips it. I will take the plug to bits now and see if I can notice if the fuse has gone or if the wires are touching. Thanks for the ideas. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

is it a condernsor by any chance as that recently happened to to me it was keep tripping the switch the guy said it was the pump not getting rid of the water so the water was left lying (mine is attached to the waste pipe so i dont use the water butt) 3 weeks after that it happened again another guy came and changed summic else (stupid me can't remember what)
edit......just found job sheet it says ' heater assy fitted' what ever that means0 -
Yes ours is a condensor. My gf says that when she put this current load of drying in she did notice there wasn't any water in the draw from the last load which is odd. Think you might have hit the nail on the head there BarJam. I'll have a check in the plug and if not then I think I'm going to assume its what you had. Hopefully the dryer is in warranty. We've only had it a year and a half(ish). This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

I am having the same problem
I have tried the tumble dryer on a different plug (one that is on a breaker, high voltage) and it is still doing it
I will cut the plug off and rewire it with a new plug if not I will get in an engineer
barjam if you are still about how much did it cost you to get it fixed?
Thanks in advance0 -

This means that the pump is failing to pump the water up from the condensing reservoir to the disposal drawer at the top. Either pump failure or possibly a blockage. But usually when this happens there is a safety cut out that operates, maybe that is tripping the MCB/RCD? To be absolutely sure it is not a dodgy MCB, suggest you test it on another power circuit and see if it trips on a different MCB.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I have tried it on another circuit and it is still tripping so it is deffiantley the dryer
I have cleaned out the condensing reservoir as it had a loot of dryer out black fluff in it, 25p, 2 marbles and a few bones from my shirt collars.
anyway I will be cutting off the plug this evening and rewiring a new one if that fails ill call out an engineer
if it is the pump is this expensive
Thanks again0 -
My Bosch cost about £100 to replace the pump, about £50 for the pump and the same for labour.
Do you mean you cleaned out the door filter, as I can't see how objects that large could pass through the condensing system? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
