Insurance for car with engine swap...

Hi all,
This will only probably apply to a handful of people but due to a 'stage' I went through about 8 years ago my car has a few modifications, including a bigger engine. Insurance has always posed me a nightmare and really I find I'm limited to just a few insurers and wondered if anyone know of any others I could try. My renewal quote is £231 TPFT with my current insurer and I have gone through all the comparison sites as listed on here (I'm impressed that they all now seem to cater for modifications even if they don't actually always pass the information on to the insurers - Watch out for this, the quotes may look impressive but I find that the modifications aren't accounted for in the quotes!!)
From comparison sites I get a few quotes usually, on one site I got none but they're usually about £2k even though I'm 31 with 11 Years NCB, no accidents or convictions and did everything else (job etc.) possible to reduce the premium.
I find the only ones I can get decent quotes from are as follows:
Adrian Flux
Greenlight Insurance (modified car insurer - wouldn't quote for me!)
HIC
Swinton
Sky Insurance
Endsleigh
A Plan
Direct Line
Privilege
Aviva
The above gave me various quotes all under £1000...
If anyone knows any others that are good with modifications please let me know. So far £231 with HIC is looking to be the cheapest (they're an often unknown modified car insurer)

Consider a motor traders policy."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

A motor trade policy is only suitable if you are a genuine motor trader, if your not then it is not worth the paper it is printed on0

you need to prove your business though? And plus they cost more than £231!0

Not an urban myth at all, a Motor Trade Policy is designed for Motor Traders, whether they are part time or full time. They have to have some type of Motor Trade business. They are not designed for the general public to use.
The type of companies that would the OP would ask for a quote would offer a Motor Trade Road Riskeg Tradex, Chaucer, MMA, Tradewise etc etc sell their policies subject to you being some type of Motor Trader. In the event of a claim they will require proof that you are a motor trader eg adverts, invoices, receipts, books etc etc. If you cannot provide to the Insurer satisfaction theyn will void the policy.
This is not an urban myth, I have personally seen five people who have taken motor trade policies who were advised to by friends / motor traders or miss in formed brokers to take out a motor trade policy as it covered them for any vehicle. They all had their policies voided and the claims not paid as they were not motor traders.
I have even seen Road Risk Motor Trade Insurers conducting reviews when there is not a claim and requesting proof the customer is a bona fide Motor Trader. This is often prompted when the customer does not update many or any vehicles on to the MID which can prompt the review
If you claim to be a Motor Trader on the proposal form and are not then you have obtained the cover without supplying the correct details so depending on the circumstances the Insurers can void the policy.0 -
